Charles Sherwood, Age 35

Charles had been living at Woodhouse Lane, Dawley with his wife Emma and two children when he enlisted but she moved to 12 King Street, Broseley after his death.

Charles had served for 15 months in France before going to Italy and whilst there had been admitted to hospital (Reasons unknown). He had come home on leave and whilst at home had walked back from Wellington with a friend, but within 3 or 4 days had fallen ill and died.

A report appeared in the Journal about his death and this appealed for people of a kindly disposition to convey stranded soldiers to their homes so not to have a repeat of Charles death. According to the information that survives Charles is remembered at Shrewsbury General Cemetery - Special Memorial Plot 10, Grave 300A and was buried at Dawley Prava (St Luke’s) Churchyard.

Charles and his wife were living at 5 Higford Rd Nr Shifnal (maybe Higford near, Beckbury?) in 1911, they were marred in (Jul-Aug-Sep) 1907 Registration District: Madeley, there first son was born 7th Aug 1909 named William Henry Sherwood, and there second son born 24 Feb 1912 named Albert Sherwood, at some time they were living at 2, Woodhouse Lane, Horsehay, Dawley, Charles’s wife Emma (madam name Lewis) was remarried to William J Harrison in 1920.
